Identifying Your Ideal Job

Step 1 Take out a blank sheet of paper.
Step 2 Create three columns:

Column One: "What are the things you have in this job, or had in past jobs, that you don’t want as part of your next job?"

Column Two: "What are the things you have in this job, or had in past jobs, that you want as part of your next job?"

Column Three: "What have you not yet had in a job that you want as part of your next job?"

Step 3 Live with this list for a week. Add and delete items on your list as you experience your week.
Step 4 Add the big things and the little things.
Step 5 NOW, and only NOW, begin to write your resume.
Step 6 DO NOT include any accomplishments or skills that reflect Column one.
Step 7 DO highlight those accomplishments and skills reflected in Column two and demonstrate your readiness for Column three.
Step 8 Identify the 5 things that must be true about your next opportunity for it to be the right opportunity for you. (Hint: challenge, growth and opportunity mean different things to different people. What do they mean to YOU?)
Example:
